Muscle & performance
This is the biggest draw, and the one with the weakest evidence. Growth-hormone secretagogues (ipamorelin, CJC-1295, GHRP-6) and IGF-pathway compounds are popular in gyms, but none is proven to build muscle in humans, and all growth-hormone-releasing peptides are banned in sport by WADA. See peptides for muscle growth and peptides for bodybuilding.
Important: the popular muscle peptide MK-677 is not actually a peptide — it's a small molecule. See is MK-677 a peptide?
Weight loss
The GLP-1 and dual-agonist drugs (semaglutide, tirzepatide) are FDA-approved, trial-proven weight-loss medicines used widely by men. Unlike the muscle peptides, these genuinely work. See peptides for weight loss.
Libido & sexual health
PT-141 (bremelanotide) acts on brain melanocortin pathways involved in sexual desire — a different mechanism from erectile blood-flow drugs like Viagra. It's FDA-approved for low sexual desire in premenopausal women; its use in men is off-label and less established. Note that testosterone is not a peptide (it's a steroid hormone), so it's outside this site's scope.
Hair
For thinning hair, copper peptides and others come up — covered in our dedicated peptides for hair guide. The honest summary: promising but unproven, and no peptide matches the evidence behind minoxidil or finasteride.
The honest framing
The pattern for men mirrors the whole field: the weight-loss peptides are approved and proven, while the muscle and recovery peptides most associated with men are unapproved research chemicals with little human evidence and sport bans. Popularity in the gym is not proof. See are peptides safe? and do peptides actually work?
Frequently asked questions
What are the best peptides for men?
It depends on the goal. For weight, the FDA-approved GLP-1 drugs (semaglutide, tirzepatide). For muscle, growth-hormone secretagogues like ipamorelin and CJC-1295 are popular but unproven in humans and banned in sport. For libido, PT-141. Peptides otherwise work the same regardless of sex.
What peptides are best for muscle growth in men?
The commonly used ones are growth-hormone secretagogues (ipamorelin, CJC-1295, GHRP-6) and IGF-pathway compounds, but none is proven to build muscle in humans and all are banned in sport. The popular 'MK-677' is not even a peptide — it's a small molecule.
Is there a peptide for male libido?
PT-141 (bremelanotide) acts on brain pathways involved in sexual desire. It's FDA-approved for low desire in premenopausal women; use in men is off-label and less established. Testosterone is not a peptide, so it's outside this reference's scope.
Are peptides safe for men?
The approved peptide medicines have known safety profiles used under supervision. The muscle and recovery research peptides most marketed to men are unapproved, unproven in humans, and carry the quality risks of unregulated products, plus sport bans.
